Baghdad has warned of the risks of an expanding conflict in the region, stressing that Middle East stability depends on diplomatic progress and the protection of strategic infrastructure from military targeting.

Iraq’s Support for Nuclear Negotiations and IAEA Dialogue

Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, outlined Iraq’s position during a phone call with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He reaffirmed Iraq’s full support for efforts to reach an agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing that such an agreement would strengthen stability across the region.

Rejection of Attacks Targeting Gulf States

Regarding recent military escalations, Fuad Hussein stated that Iraq rejects any expansion of the war and opposes actions that threaten regional stability.

He specifically referred to drone attacks targeting the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), describing such strikes as extremely dangerous due to the risk of radioactive contamination.

Iraq’s Readiness for Joint Investigation Mechanism

The Iraqi Foreign Minister confirmed Baghdad’s readiness to participate in a joint investigative committee with Gulf states to identify those responsible for attacks targeting sensitive infrastructure across the region.

He stressed that this proposal aims to uncover the perpetrators behind such incidents and prevent further escalation.

Regional Tensions and Nuclear Safety Risks

In the context of recent military confrontations involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, several cross-border strikes have extended into Arab territories.

One notable incident involved an unclaimed drone strike hitting an electrical generator near the Barakah nuclear facility in the UAE. Such incidents are considered a serious threat to regional environmental and public safety, given the potential risk of a reactor incident and radioactive leakage.
