The wheat procurement process has officially started at silos across the Kurdistan Region. Under a new plan by the Ministry of Agriculture, both in-quota and out-of-quota wheat will be purchased from farmers at two separate price rates.

Launch of Procurement and Overall Distribution Plan

Today, wheat procurement for this year’s harvest began at silos across the Kurdistan Region, with the process officially launched at the Piramagrun silo.

The Iraqi government has decided to purchase 400,000 tons of wheat from farmers in the Kurdistan Region. This total is divided into 292,000 tons within the official agricultural quota plan and 108,000 tons classified as out-of-quota surplus wheat.

Minister of Agriculture Begard Talabani confirmed the detailed provincial distribution through an official document sent to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s representation office in Baghdad.

Sulaymaniyah Province received the largest share, totaling 150,209 tons, including 109,658 tons within quota and 40,551 tons out of quota.

Erbil Province follows with a total of 122,680 tons, consisting of 89,561 tons in-quota and 33,119 tons out-of-quota wheat.

The total budget allocated for the procurement operation stands at 258,400,000,000 IQD, of which 204,400,000,000 IQD is designated for in-quota wheat and 54,000,000,000 IQD for out-of-quota surplus wheat.
