Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi is expected to visit Washington in the second half of next month, leading a high-level government delegation for talks with senior U.S. officials on a range of security, economic, and trade issues, according to Iraqi government officials.
High-Level Meetings Planned
Speaking to Channel8, Abdul-Zahra al-Hindawi, director of media for the Iraqi Council of Ministers, said al-Zaidi would travel to the United States on an official visit in the second half of next month and would lead a high-level delegation representing various government institutions.
The visit is expected to include meetings with senior U.S. administration officials to discuss bilateral relations and areas of strategic cooperation between Baghdad and Washington.
Security and Economic Issues on the Agenda
According to information obtained by Channel8, discussions during the visit will focus on several key files, including security cooperation, economic development, trade relations, and efforts to ensure that arms remain under the exclusive authority of the Iraqi state.
The two sides are also expected to explore the establishment of a joint investment fund aimed at supporting economic cooperation and development projects.
Expanding Investment and Trade Cooperation
Earlier this month, al-Zaidi announced plans to visit the United States as part of efforts to expand bilateral investment opportunities and strengthen economic partnerships between the two countries.
The Iraqi prime minister said he intends to be accompanied by a group of Iraqi business leaders and private-sector representatives to facilitate direct engagement with American companies and explore new avenues for commercial cooperation.
Invitation From the White House
The upcoming visit follows an invitation extended by U.S. President Donald Trump after al-Zaidi was designated to form Iraq's government.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had congratulated al-Zaidi during a telephone call and invited him to visit the White House.
The visit is expected to underscore the strategic relationship between Iraq and the United States, with both sides seeking to deepen cooperation on security, economic development, and regional stability.
