Iraq Launches 'Construction Basket' Project to Provide Building Materials Through Installment Plans
Iraqi Minister of Trade Mustafa Nizar al-Ani announced the launch of the "Construction Basket" project, an initiative aimed at providing citizens with essential building materials through installment-based financing.
Speaking at a press conference, al-Ani said the project will offer a range of construction supplies needed for housing projects, allowing beneficiaries to purchase materials and repay the cost over time.
Materials to Be Paid for Over 15 Months
The trade minister said applications for the program will be submitted electronically through a dedicated mobile application that is expected to be launched in the coming days.
Through the platform, citizens will be able to select the types of construction materials they require, with the total cost to be repaid through a 15-month installment plan.
Initial Phase to Target Government Employees and Retirees
Al-Ani said the project is being managed by the General Company for Construction Materials Trade and that implementation procedures have already begun following the signing of a contract with the Qi Card company (International Smart Card).
According to the minister, the first phase of the initiative will cover government employees and retirees whose salaries are deposited with Rafidain Bank.
Minister Calls on Banks to Support Initiative
The trade minister also urged banks participating in Iraq's salary localization program to support the project in order to expand its reach and enable more segments of society to benefit from the initiative.
The "Construction Basket" project is part of the government's efforts to facilitate access to housing construction materials and ease the financial burden on citizens seeking to build or complete their homes.
