Erbil and Baghdad have reached a final agreement to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region under a two-phase plan that will gradually increase production to 400,000 barrels per day, alongside coordinated security arrangements to protect operating companies.

Agreement on a Two-Phase Oil Export Restart Plan

According to information obtained by Channel8, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi Federal Government have finalized an agreement to resume Kurdistan Region oil exports. The agreement was reached during the latest meeting between the senior KRG delegation and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, with practical implementation steps already underway.

The export process will be implemented in two phases: in the first phase, international oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region will restart production at a baseline of 250,000 barrels per day. In the second phase, total production and export capacity will be increased to 400,000 barrels per day.

Security Guarantees for Protecting Oil Companies

To resume operations and scale up production safely, international oil companies requested strong security guarantees from the Iraqi government.

In response, a high-ranking Iraqi military and security delegation visited the Kurdistan Region on Sunday for joint talks with the KRG President and Prime Minister. During the meeting, both sides agreed to draft a comprehensive security plan to protect oil companies, ensuring the safe resumption of operations and helping offset Iraq’s financial losses.
