Nechirvan Barzani and UK Ambassador Stress Erbil-Baghdad Dialogue, Hail U.S.-Iran Deal

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Irfan Siddiq, the British Ambassador to Iraq, in Erbil, stressing that sustained dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad is "essential" to resolving outstanding disputes. The leaders jointly welcomed the recent U.S.-Iran agreement, framing it as a critical milestone for regional stability and peaceful conflict resolution.

The Kurdistan Region Presidency said in a statement on Monday that the meeting, attended by the British Consul General in Erbil, focused on strengthening the United Kingdom’s relationship with both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. 

Discussions also centered on the current Iraqi political landscape and the ongoing formation of the federal government. 

Barzani and Siddiq “emphasized the necessity of ongoing coordination among political parties to ensure stability, peace, and sovereignty.”

Erbil-Baghdad Dialogue Essential to Resolve Issues

The Presidency noted that both sides discussed the political climate in the Kurdistan Region and the initiatives aimed at addressing and resolving internal challenges. “They also deemed it essential to maintain dialogue and mutual understanding between Erbil and Baghdad to tackle unresolved issues.” 

Barzani and Siddiq Hail U.S.-Iran Peace Deal

Both parties also hailed the recent agreement between the Washington and Tehran, expressing hope that it would contribute to peace and stability while underlining “the significance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means.”

UK Ambassador Arrives in Erbil Today and Meets KRG PM

Ambassador Siddiq arrived in Erbil earlier today and met with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who underscored the importance of reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament as a vital legislative institution, highlighting that “its resumption is essential to ending the political stalemate in the Kurdistan Region.” 

The KRG stated that both sides stressed the importance of supporting the federal government to preserve stability, while Siddiq praised Prime Minister Barzani's recent Baghdad visit as a “successful step” toward resolving outstanding Erbil-Baghdad disputes.
