Trump: U.S.-Iran Deal Text Due Soon, Strait of Hormuz to Reopen Friday
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the deal with Tehran has been finalized and the Strait of Hormuz will be “completely open” by Friday.
Addressing the press alongside French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the G7 summit, Trump stated that the waterway is now partially open and operations are underway to remove mines.
He noted that following the reopening of the strait, regional prospects would improve significantly as oil prices plummet and the stock market surges.
“We get along really well with Iran,” he said, reaffirming that Tehran will not have nuclear weapons and that sanctions relief depends on the actions of the country.
The U.S.-Iran peace deal framework, announced on Saturday, June 13, establishes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to immediately halt military hostilities after months of the conflict.
Mediated primarily by Pakistan and Qatar, the breakthrough has caused global stock markets to surge and crude oil prices to drop significantly.
Per the agreement, the United States will lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports, and Iran will completely reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz to international shipping traffic.
Trump Says U.S.-Iran Deal Text Coming Soon
Regarding the scheduling of the signing ceremony, Trump indicated that his direct participation remains uncertain due to late-running meetings, noting that Vice President JD Vance was originally designated to sign the accord and may still do so.
He confirmed that the text of the deal will be released “probably pretty soon... sometime after Friday.”
Trump on Lebanon: U.S. Aims to Resolve Issue
Regarding the issue of Lebanon, which Iran insisted be part of the deal, Trump said that the U.S. looks forward to resolving the issue and wants to have “a little talk” with Hezbollah.
