Iraq Reveals Agenda for PM Ali Faleh al-Zaidi’s Upcoming Washington Visit
The Iraqi government spokesperson has outlined the agenda for Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi’s expected visit to Washington, confirming that economic and investment files will be the central focus of discussions.
Timing and Objectives of the Visit to Washington
Iraqi government spokesperson Hayder al-Aboudi announced that al-Zaidi will visit Washington in mid-July. The visit aims to strengthen the partnership between Iraq and the United States and elevate bilateral strategic relations to a more effective level.
Economic, Trade, and Investment Priorities
The spokesperson clarified that, under the government’s ministerial program, economic, trade, and investment dossiers will be among the top priorities for discussion.
He also noted that the government seeks to expand strategic partnerships with international companies and promote an investment environment that delivers direct benefits to the Iraqi economy.
Arms Control and Internal Stability Efforts
Al-Aboudi stated that the Iraqi government continues to address the issue of unauthorized and unregulated weapons.
He emphasized efforts to restrict weapons ownership and use exclusively to the state and specialized security institutions, to strengthen internal stability.
Relations with Washington and Recent Diplomatic Meeting
These remarks come following a meeting between Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and U.S. President's Special Envoy Tom Barrack.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building a strong bilateral partnership that supports the sovereignty, security, and development of both countries.
