Kurdistan Region Delegation to Visit Baghdad to Finalize ASYCUDA Agreement
A technical delegation from the Kurdistan Region is scheduled to travel to Baghdad on Wednesday to finalize an agreement on the implementation of the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA), according to information obtained by Channel8.
Finalizing the ASYCUDA Agreement
The delegation will hold meetings with officials from Iraq's Border Ports Commission and other relevant federal agencies to prepare the final draft of the agreement governing the Kurdistan Region's integration into the ASYCUDA system.
Following the completion of the technical discussions, a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Region is expected to travel to Baghdad to formally sign the agreement with the relevant federal authorities.
Kurdish Companies to Be Integrated into the System
According to the sources, once the agreement is signed, companies operating in the Kurdistan Region will be integrated into the ASYCUDA system, enabling them to access its services on an equal footing with companies in other parts of Iraq.
Customs Tariff Unification
In addition to the ASYCUDA system, the talks will address the unification of customs tariffs between Baghdad and Erbil. Part of the agreement focuses on establishing a unified customs tariff regime, under which border crossings in both federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region would operate under a single customs clearance system for imported goods and commodities.
The implementation of ASYCUDA in the Kurdistan Region has been one of the longstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Since the beginning of this year, the system has already been implemented at federal border crossings with neighboring countries.
