Coordination Framework Calls for Formation of the KRG’s 10th Cabinet by August
Shia parties in Baghdad are urging political forces in the Kurdistan Region to accelerate government formation while making clear their opposition to holding new elections in the Region.
Coordination Framework Leaders Hold Meeting
On Monday, a meeting was held between Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Ammar al-Hakim, Qais al-Khazali, Hadi al-Amiri, and Nouri al-Maliki.
During the meeting, leaders of the Coordination Framework agreed to call on the Kurdistan Region’s political parties to form the 10th cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) by August of this year.
Completing Iraq’s Federal Cabinet Ahead of Washington Visit
Another key topic of discussion was completing the formation of Iraq’s new federal cabinet and filling vacant positions.
The parties called for accelerating this process before Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi’s planned visit to the United States in mid-July.
Coordination Framework Opposes New Elections in the Kurdistan Region
According to information obtained by Channel8 from a source within the Hikma (Wisdom) Movement, the Coordination Framework parties oppose holding new elections in the Kurdistan Region.
Rather than considering another vote, they are encouraging the Region’s two main ruling parties to intensify efforts to form the new government cabinet by August 2026.
Synchronizing the Formation of Both Cabinets
The leaders of the Coordination Framework stressed that the formation of the KRG’s 10th cabinet should proceed in parallel with completing Iraq’s new federal cabinet.
They emphasized that both political processes should be concluded successfully by August.
