Vessel Traffic Resumes Through the Strait of Hormuz
Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has resumed after months of disruption, with several vessels already transiting the corridor.
Implementation of the Iran-U.S. Agreement
One of the first measures implemented after the signing of the Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding was the lifting of U.S. restrictions on Iranian ports and the removal of the Iranian blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
Ships Begin Moving Through the Strait
According to data from maritime traffic monitoring websites, several vessels have begun moving through the strait, with multiple ships already completing successful transits.
MarineTraffic reported that a cargo ship flying the French flag departed from Gulf waters through the Strait of Hormuz today.
Norwegian LNG Shipment Transits the Corridor
Tracking data also showed another vessel operated by the Norwegian company Knutsen OAS Shipping passing through the strait.
The ship is carrying approximately 77,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is traveling from Qatar to Pakistan.
Saudi Oil Tankers in Transit
Maritime monitoring platforms reported that three additional vessels flying the Saudi Arabian flag, carrying a combined total of six million barrels of oil, have also successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz.
According to an analytical brief published by Reuters, the movement of these three Saudi vessels represents the largest volume of maritime traffic recorded in several weeks.
Saudi Export Routes and Alternative Ports
Since tensions escalated on February 28, Saudi Arabia has been relying heavily on alternative ports along the Red Sea coast to continue its crude oil exports.
Additional Vessel Movements
Further reports indicate that a vessel flying the Hong Kong flag and carrying Abu Dhabi fuel also transited the strait today, alongside a QatarEnergy gas carrier that entered the waterway.
Full Resumption of Maritime Traffic
Overall, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, previously paralyzed for several months, has now officially resumed.
Following Sunday’s announcement of the understanding between Iran and the United States, American officials stated that the strait would reopen within a few days.
