Israel’s military announced Friday that it had carried out strikes against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, despite a recently brokered peace agreement aimed at halting the wider Middle East war.

“During the night, the army struck and continues to strike Hezbollah terrorists and infrastructure in several areas in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli military said, accusing the Iran-backed group of repeated ceasefire violations.

Hezbollah confirmed ongoing clashes, claiming its fighters destroyed three Israeli Merkava tanks with guided missiles and repelled an attempted Israeli infiltration near the Ali al-Taher hills overlooking Nabatieh.

The violence comes just days after the United States and Iran signed an agreement intended to end hostilities across the region, including in Lebanon. Yet fighting has persisted, with Hezbollah reporting battles near Arnoun and Kfar Tibnit. Lebanese state media said Israeli drone strikes in the area killed three people on Thursday.

UN peacekeepers also reported exchanges of fire, underscoring the fragility of the ceasefire.
