Iraq Says Stability and Rule of Law Are Vital for Reform and Investment
The Iraqi government has emphasized that enforcing the rule of law and maintaining national stability are essential prerequisites for institutional reform and attracting foreign investment, underscoring the importance of state authority and anti-corruption measures in the country's reform agenda.
Government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi said the administration's reform vision is built on two fundamental pillars: restricting the possession of weapons exclusively to the state and combating financial and administrative corruption.
"The success of institutional reform depends on these two key principles," Aboudi said, noting that efforts to strengthen state institutions cannot be achieved without addressing security challenges and corruption.
Reform Agenda Centered on State Authority
According to the government spokesperson, Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has received broad political and national support for initiatives aimed at limiting the possession of weapons to state institutions and eliminating sources of corruption.
Al-Aboudi stated that the Council of Representatives has granted the prime minister full backing to take decisions across various sectors and government portfolios in order to safeguard the country's public interests and advance the reform process.
He added that strengthening state institutions and enforcing the law remain central objectives of the government's agenda.
Stability Key to Economic Development
The government stressed that Iraq currently requires a stable and peaceful environment to support economic growth and encourage investment.
Al-Aboudi said achieving lasting stability depends on enforcing the rule of law and enhancing the authority and credibility of state institutions. Such measures, he noted, are necessary to create a favorable environment for foreign investment and contribute to long-term economic development.
Government officials have repeatedly emphasized that improving the investment climate remains a priority as Iraq seeks to diversify its economy and attract international capital.
Baghdad-Washington Coordination
Addressing Iraq's relations with the United States, al-Aboudi said coordination between Baghdad and Washington is based on clear principles and shared interests.
He explained that cooperation focuses primarily on economic and security issues while ensuring the protection of Iraq's sovereignty and supporting regional stability.
According to the spokesperson, the framework governing bilateral coordination aims to serve mutual interests while preserving Iraq's independent decision-making and national priorities.
