Iraqi FM Joins Arab League Council Session in Amman to Address Regional Issues
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein arrived in the Jordanian capital to attend the Arab League Council meeting, where ministers are slated to address pressing regional security and political developments.
The resumed 165th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level is taking place today, Monday, in the capital, Amman.
The primary administrative focus is formally approving Egypt's nomination of former Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy as the new Secretary-General of the Arab League. He will succeed the outgoing Ahmed Aboul Gheit on July 1.
Foreign Ministry: Arab Ministers to Coordinate on Regional Security
The foreign ministry stated that the session is slated to address key matters of mutual interest, alongside pressing regional political and security developments and the council’s pre-established agenda.
According to the statement, a preliminary consultative meeting will allow Arab foreign ministers to coordinate positions and exchange views on key issues, “thereby contributing to the enhancing of joint Arab action and supporting efforts to address the current regional challenges.”
Arab League Council: Functions, Structure, and Regional Mandate
The Arab League Council is the supreme decision-making body of the League of Arab States, comprising foreign ministers and ambassadors from all 22 member nations.
Established in 1945, the council is responsible for shaping collective regional policy, appointing executive leadership, and mediating political and security crises across the Arab world.
