Mediators Qatar, Pakistan Announce 60-Day U.S.–Iran Roadmap at Switzerland Summit
Mediators Qatar and Pakistan announced a 60-day roadmap toward a final deal between the United States and Iran, alongside new U.S.–Iranian military de-confliction mechanisms for Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz.
High-level diplomatic talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding concluded in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on Monday, bringing together representatives from the United States and Iran alongside Qatar and Pakistan.
The delegations were led by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Iranian officials Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Abbas Araghchi, alongside the Prime Ministers of Pakistan and Qatar.
New US–Iran Oversight Committee and 60-Day Roadmap
Qatar and Pakistan issued a joint statement today and noted that the first session of high-level talks concluded, which was held “in a positive and constructive atmosphere. Encouraging progress has been made including the creation of a mechanism for further technical talks.”
The statement noted that the parties agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight for the mediation.
Chief negotiators will report regularly to this committee while leading specialized working groups focused on nuclear issues, sanctions relief, and dispute resolution.
“The High Level Committee has agreed upon a roadmap towards reaching a final deal within 60 days, laying the foundation for the immediate commencement of further technical talks,” the statement added.
A newly established communication line between the parties aims to prevent maritime incidents and ensure safe passage for commercial vessels traveling through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Mediators: US and Iran Agree to Lebanon De-Confliction Cell
Qatar and Pakistan emphasized that Washington and Tehran agreed to a de-confliction cell with Lebanon “to ensure the adherence of the termination of military operations in Lebanon as per the MoU.”
“The mediating parties will continue to do their utmost to ensure that the negotiations continue to be conducted in a constructive atmosphere with the aim of reaching a final deal,” the joint statement added.
Trump and Qalibaf Trade Stances
U.S. President Donald Trump outlined a strict enforcement stance amid the Bürgenstock summit, threatening unilateral U.S. shipping tolls in the Strait of Hormuz and direct military strikes if Iran or its Lebanese proxies violate the 60-day diplomatic framework.
In response, Iranian lead negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf dismissed the warnings, stating, “our armed forces are prepared to respond in a different manner. No matter how much they talk, it is we who act.”
Araghchi Hails 'Major Progress' in Switzerland talks
On the joint statement by Qatar and Pakistan, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X that the mediation country has delivered “major progress” regarding Lebanon.
“Oil and petrochem exports are waived, blockade lifted, some frozen assets released, and major reconstruction & development plan launched for Iran,” he added.
