Erbil and Moscow Reinforce Relations as Nechirvan Barzani and the Russian Ambassador Tackle Global Security

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Russian Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev on Tuesday to reinforce trilateral cooperation between Erbil, Baghdad, and Moscow while tackling critical regional and global security developments.

Regarding the meeting, which was also attended by the Russian Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, Maxim Rubin, the Presidency said in a statement on Tuesday that both sides reaffirmed “mutual cooperation between Russia, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.”

Erbil-Baghdad Relations and Regional Affairs

Central to the discussions were the Kurdistan Region's internal affairs and its ongoing relations with Baghdad. Barzani and Kutrashev stressed “the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding to resolve outstanding issues.”

U.S.-Iran Accord Raised in Erbil Meeting

The two sides exchanged views on the recent U.S.-Iran agreement, expressing hope that the discussions would foster lasting, comprehensive, and stable peace in the region.
