International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed that international inspectors will soon deploy to Iran under a new deal mandating full supervision of nuclear activities in coordination with the Iranian government.

The Washington and Tehran delegations, led by Vice President JD Vance and Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, met in Switzerland earlier this week in Qatar- and Pakistan-mediated talks, after which a formal 60-day roadmap toward a permanent peace deal was established.

Under the agreed framework, the High-Level Committee formed four specialized technical working groups, one of which is explicitly designated as the Nuclear Affairs Working Group.

This group is tasked with hammering out permanent, legally binding boundaries for Iran’s nuclear program before the two-month interim framework expires.

IAEA Chief Says Signed Agreement Guarantees Iran Oversight

While on a visit to Japan, Grossi said that he “can understand political statements; they are part of the reality,” adding, however, that “the fundamental thing I would like to remind you and draw your attention to is that there has been a Memorandum of Understanding, signed by both presidents.”

Grossi emphasized that the agreement “explicitly” mandates full supervision of activities at Iran's nuclear material facilities, adding that this requirement is spelled out in the text of the agreement.

The Director General further affirmed that nuclear inspections will happen in coordination with the Iranian government, highlighting that the exact timeline is less important than the guarantee of the visits.

U.S. and Iran Clash Over Nuclear Inspection Claims

Grossi’s statement comes as U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday that “Iran has fully and completely agreed to highest level Nuclear inspections long into the future (Infinity!!!). This will insure 'Nuclear Honesty,’”

Trump underlined that if Iran fails to agree to the measures, “there would be no further negotiations!”

Conversely, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei refuted claims that Tehran accepted new nuclear commitments, asserting that international inspections of war-damaged nuclear facilities will not be permitted.
