Bafel Jalal Talabani, Japanese Ambassador Discuss Regional Tensions and Kurdistan-Japan Relations
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Jalal Talabani received Japanese Ambassador to Iraq Akira Endo in Dabashan, where the two sides discussed political developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider region.
The meeting focused on regional security developments, domestic political affairs, and ways to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and Japan.
Talabani: Priority Was to Protect the Country from Regional Tensions
During the meeting, Talabani said the PUK had worked from the outset to prevent regional tensions from negatively affecting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
"From the very beginning, our efforts were focused on ensuring that the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran would have the least possible impact on our country," Talabani said.
He emphasized the importance of preserving stability and preventing regional developments from affecting the security and interests of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Call for a Strong and Service-Oriented Government
Talabani also reiterated the PUK's commitment to forming a capable government that delivers services and safeguards the rights of all communities.
"We are working diligently to establish a strong government that serves the people, carries out its responsibilities on the basis of justice, preserves balance and coexistence, and guarantees the rights of all parties and communities," he said.
The PUK leader stressed that good governance, fairness and political balance remain essential to ensuring stability and strengthening public trust in state institutions.
Kurdistan Region-Japan Relations
The meeting also underscored the importance of expanding relations between the Kurdistan Region and Japan.
Both sides emphasized the need to further strengthen bilateral ties and continue cooperation in areas of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining close relations between the Kurdistan Region and Japan.
