Iraqi Spokesperson: Special Account Formed for Seized Assets as Baghdad Praises Kurdistan’s Anti-Graft Cooperation

Iraqi Government Spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi stated that a special bank account will be opened to deposit all funds seized during the anti-corruption crackdown, while praising the Kurdistan Regional Government's stance in confronting corruption and handing over wanted individuals.

Al-Aboudi stated on Monday that the "first phase" of the crackdown against corrupt individuals remains ongoing, adding that new names have been uncovered during the investigations.

Regarding the situated reports of if international assistance was involved in the process, the spokesperson rejected the rumors and said no outside party was involved in uncovering the corrupt individuals.

Iraqi initiated sweeping security raids to arrest individuals involved in corruption cases earlier this week. At least 47 politicians, lawmakers, and senior government officials have been arrested in the initial phase of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Strict security measures have been implemented at checkpoints between the Kurdistan Region and federal Iraq amid the ongoing anti-corruption crackdown. Simultaneously, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) and other federal forces have been deployed to Kirkuk, Dibis, and Saladin.

Kurdistan Salaries and Erbil-Baghdad talk on Disputed Issues 

Responding to Channel8 questions concerning the Kurdistan Region's public sector financial entitlements, Government Spokesperson reinforced Baghdad's commitment to securing salaries. 

Al-Aboudi also confirmed that a KRG delegation is currently in Baghdad for talks with Iraqi authorities, during which they are scheduled to meet with the Ministerial Council for Economy. 

He further highlighted that the implementation of the ASYCUDA automation system and the management of non-oil revenues will serve as the primary focus of the meetings between the Erbil and Baghdad delegations.
