Justice Ministry Denies Arrest of Office Director; Vows Legal Action Amid Disinformation Campaign
The Iraqi Ministry of Justice has dismissed reports claiming the arrest of the Director of the Minister's Office, noting that the official remains on duty and has not faced any legal issues during his tenure.
The denial follows reports published by certain Kurdish social media accounts and media platforms claiming that the office director for Justice Minister Khalid Shwani had been detained.
The rumors surfaced directly amid an unprecedented anti-corruption crackdown launched by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, which recently saw elite forces arrest dozens of high-profile officials.
Ministry Denies Arrest of Office Director, Slams 'Fabricated' Rumors'
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Media Department of the Iraqi Ministry of Justice declared, “Certain media outlets and specific social media pages have published fabricated news regarding the arrest of the Director of the Minister of Justice's Office for political motives and misinformation.”
The department emphasized that these reports are “entirely false and completely baseless.”
Furthermore, the ministry stressed that the official remains on duty, actively executing his formal responsibilities. “He has never faced, nor does he currently face, any legal issues. On the contrary, he stands as a model of a loyal and honest employee, as verified by the reports of oversight authorities,” the statement added.
The Media Department further noted that such acts of disinformation are aimed "solely at defaming the Ministry of Justice and its officials."
Consequently, the Ministry of Justice affirmed that it will file lawsuits against all channels, pages, and media institutions that published the false news to ensure they are held legally accountable.
