Al-Zaidi Stresses Continuation of Efforts to Combat Corruption and Restrict Arms to State Authority
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi stressed the importance of protecting the state by combating corruption and restricting arms to government authority.
During a meeting with tribal sheikhs and dignitaries, al-Zaidi emphasized the need to "combat the scourge of corruption that threatens state institutions, and continue to implement plans to restrict arms to state authority in support of the Armed Forces and their honorable mission.”
PM Acknowledges Tribal Role in Supporting Rule of Law
He also acknowledged the role of Iraq’s tribes in supporting the rule of law, strengthening state authority, and assisting the government's economic and social reform programs.
Al-Zaidi also highlighted the unity of the country’s forces “behind the fatwa of the Supreme Religious Authority at that time in support of the Iraqi people’s interests and the preservation of the country’s sovereignty.”
In turn, the attendees commended the Iraqi government's ongoing initiatives to safeguard national resources, enforce anti-corruption laws, and reinforce state sovereignty.
Al-Zaidi Enforces Anti-Graft Campaign and Weapons Mandate
Ali al-Zaidi's administration has launched a sweeping anti-corruption campaign recently, targeting entrenched financial misconduct within state institutions. The ongoing initiative has already resulted in the arrest of over 60 high-profile politicians, businessmen, and senior bureaucrats across Baghdad's Green Zone.
To secure public funds, investigators have frozen assets and seized millions of dollars in illicit wealth as part of a broader strategy to eliminate public sector graft.
Meanwhile, al-Zaidi’s disarmament program enforces a strict federal mandate requiring all armed factions to surrender heavy weaponry to state control ahead of the international coalition's withdrawal.
Saraya al-Salam and other groups have already initiated compliance protocols to integrate their arsenals into the formal Iraqi Armed Forces.
