President Amedi arrived in Tehran to attend the farewell ceremony of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, held at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla on Friday.
The state funeral has officially begun today, marking the start of a massive, six-day multi-city procession across both Iran and Iraq.
Amedi Extends Condolences, Congratulated by Pezeshkian
The Iraqi presidency said that Amedi “extended the condolences and sympathies of the Iraqi people to the Iranian people following the martyrdom of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, along with several leaders, officials, and citizens.”
Pezeshkian congratulated Amedi on his election as Iraqi President and thanked him for attending the funeral ceremony.
Iraq and Iran Vow Joint Action for Regional Peace
During the meeting, Amedi emphasized that relations between both countries “are deeply interconnected historically, socially, and culturally,” underlining the importance of joint action to strengthen ties, benefit both sides, and support regional stability.
The leaders highlighted the need to end regional conflicts through diplomacy, adopting "peaceful solutions that enhance regional security and support the aspirations of the region's peoples for stability and development."

Fragile U.S.-Iran Ceasefire Holds During Tehran Funeral Ceremonies
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 during a joint military strike launched by the United States and Israel.
The attack directly targeted his official residence in Tehran, causing severe structural damage and instantly killing the 86-year-old Supreme Leader alongside his family members and 40 senior security officials.
The U.S. and Iran are holding a fragile ceasefire during the Supreme Leader's funeral alongside recent talks to reach an agreement, but tensions remain as Washington keeps thousands of Marines nearby and Tehran threatens a forceful response to any military interference.
