The Kurdistan Region Commission of Integrity has activated a dedicated hotline to expose corruption, an initiative that guarantees financial rewards and legal protection for individuals who step forward with confidential information.

To help the public report suspected corruption and the embezzlement of public funds, the commission established the specialized 1015 hotline, which has been active since August 2025. Following the launch of the new reward campaign, more than 100 citizens contacted the line in less than a month to file complaints.

KRG Integrity Commission Logs 110 Whistleblower Calls

Sarkhel Hashim, the Director of Media for the Integrity Commission, stated that the commission launched a campaign on the 9th of last month to encourage the whistleblowing of corrupt practices.

Hashim noted that the initiative emphasizes providing financial incentives and robust legal protection to anyone exposing confidential information regarding corruption within government institutions.

Since then, 110 phone calls have been logged, and the cases have been promptly referred for formal investigation.

Resolving Corruption Trials Key to Saving Public Money

Meanwhile, Amir Qassab, an administrative and financial expert, said that apart from the hotline, citizens also alert the commission to corruption cases via email and direct contact.

According to him, pushing these cases to their final stages and finalizing the fate of the accused is considered a primary factor in reducing the waste of public money and assets.

KRG Arrests and Extradites Officials

The initiative comes as the Iraqi government launched an anti-corruption crackdown in late June under the direct command of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, which resulted in the arrests of dozens of high-profile political figures and the seizure of millions in illicit funds and assets.

The Kurdistan Regional Government is supporting Baghdad's legislative sweep by deploying security forces to arrest and extradite accused lawmakers, ministers, and businessmen attempting to flee into the region, and has handed over several high-profile individuals.

Commission Tracks 7,795 Official Assets

Last year, the Commission of Integrity distributed 7,795 financial disclosure forms to public officials to declare their assets, while simultaneously referring 267 corruption cases to the courts.

However, the commission noted that the lack of a specialized anti-corruption court remains the primary obstacle to resolving these cases quickly, a dedicated institution that integrity officials have repeatedly urged the government to establish.
