An Iraqi court has sentenced a Ministry of Oil employee to 10 years in prison after convicting the individual of embezzling more than 1.1 billion Iraqi dinars in public funds, according to the Federal Integrity Commission.

Court Sentences Ministry Employee

The Nineveh Criminal Court issued its final verdict against the Ministry of Oil employee, sentencing the individual to 10 years in prison after finding them guilty of embezzling public funds and failing to fulfill official duties.

More Than 1.1 Billion Dinars Embezzled

According to the Integrity Commission, the employee misappropriated 1,174,287,000 Iraqi dinars from revenues generated through oil product sales. The funds were part of the revenues collected during August and September 2025 and were taken for personal gain.

Verdict Based on Iraqi Penal Code

The court based its ruling on Article 315 of the Iraqi Penal Code. After reviewing the available evidence, the court concluded that the accused had unlawfully taken state funds, leading to the conviction and prison sentence.

Part of Iraq's Anti-Corruption Campaign

The ruling comes as the Iraqi government continues to prioritize combating financial corruption and ensuring that weapons remain under state control. Authorities have referred numerous officials and public employees to the courts in connection with similar corruption cases.
