The Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Electricity says half of electricity subscribers received bills of less than 38,000 Iraqi dinars for May under the Runaki project, which now provides 24-hour electricity to 90% of the population.

May Billing Cycle and Average Costs

The Ministry of Electricity announced that billing data for May has been compiled under the Runaki project. According to the ministry, the billing cycle covered approximately 41 days, and half of the subscribers across the Kurdistan Region received electricity bills of less than 38,000 Iraqi dinars.

Electricity Costs by Province

The ministry said electricity costs for half of subscribers varied across the provinces, with Halabja recording the lowest average bills:

  • Erbil: 43,000 dinars
  • Duhok: 41,000 dinars
  • Sulaymaniyah: 32,000 dinars
  • Halabja: 30,000 dinars

Lower Costs for Low-Income Households

According to the ministry, the Runaki project currently provides uninterrupted electricity to 90% of citizens. It added that 80% of households, particularly low-income families, are now paying less for electricity than they previously spent on the combined cost of private generators and the national grid.

Expanding 24-Hour Electricity

The Kurdistan Regional Government launched the Runaki project in November 2024 to provide uninterrupted 24-hour national grid electricity to all subscribers across the Kurdistan Region by the end of 2026.
