Iraqi Parliament Dismisses National Investment Commission Chairman

Iraq's Council of Representatives has voted to remove National Investment Commission Chairman Haider Makiya from office after he failed to attend a parliamentary questioning session. Lawmakers also decided to refer files related to his work to the Integrity Commission.

Parliament Votes to Remove Haider Makiya

Bryar Rashid, member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), told Channel8 that during Monday's parliamentary session, lawmakers unanimously voted to dismiss Haider Makiya from his position as Chairman of the National Investment Commission.

Files Referred to the Integrity Commission

Speaking about the chairman's absence, Bryar Rashid said, "Haider Makiya was summoned to attend the session, but he failed to appear."

He added that parliament decided to refer all files related to Makiya and his performance as head of the National Investment Commission to the Iraqi Integrity Commission.

Makki Took Office in 2023

Haider Makiya assumed office as Chairman of the Iraqi National Investment Commission on January 22, 2023.

During his inauguration, he pledged to develop Iraq's investment sector, address longstanding challenges in line with the agenda of former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's government, and combat corruption.
