Gulf Cooperation Council Calls on UN Security Council to Safeguard Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called on the United Nations Security Council to take decisive action to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz following recent attacks on commercial vessels that the GCC attributed to Iran.
Threats to Global Energy Security
In a statement, the Gulf Cooperation Council said the recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz pose a threat to global energy security and international trade.
The GCC attributed the incidents to Iran and called on Tehran to "immediately and unconditionally halt all hostile acts."
The GCC's statement came after Iran attacked three commercial cargo ships over the past few days. In response to those attacks, the United States launched strikes on several locations inside Iran the following night.
