Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a formal statement of appreciation to the government, religious authorities, and public of Iraq following the conclusion of the regional funeral processions for the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The executive message, released by the Presidency of the Republic, emphasizes the close coordination between Tehran and Baghdad during the multi-day mourning events held in Iraq's holy cities.

Official Acknowledgement of Iraqi Leadership

In his address, President Pezeshkian extended specific commendations to Iraq’s top executive leadership for their diplomatic and logistical role in receiving the funeral delegation.

"I extend my highest expressions of thanks, appreciation, and gratitude to our two dear brothers: His Excellency Mr. Nizar Amidi, President of the Republic of Iraq, and His Excellency Mr. Ali al-Zaidi, the Prime Minister, in our second home, the sisterly and friendly Republic of Iraq," Pezeshkian stated.

The statement also expressed gratitude to Iraqi administrative officials, the broader public, and the prominent religious authorities (Maraji') and scholars who oversaw the ceremonial protocols in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, where the late leader’s body was taken for religious rites before returning to Iran for burial.

Statements on Regional and Bilateral Unity

President Pezeshkian characterized the large-scale public turnout and the reception of the late leader's procession as a reflection of traditional hospitality and shared religious values. He noted that the joint observance underscored a mutual devotion to historical Islamic figures shared by the populations of both Shiite-majority nations.

According to the official dispatch, the late Supreme Leader had consistently prioritized the development of an "atmosphere of sincere brotherhood" between the governments and peoples of Iran and Iraq.

Outlook on Future Diplomatic Relations

The presidential message indicated that Tehran views the shared mourning period as a baseline for maintaining and expanding bilateral alignment amid ongoing regional volatility. Pezeshkian stated that the supportive stances and historic moments documented during the processions would remain an important fixture in the memory of the Iranian public.

Concluding the message, the Iranian President expressed expectations for continued bilateral development:

"We are filled with hope that bilateral relations between the two countries, built upon deep fraternal, cultural, and religious ties, will witness further development, prosperity, and deepening across all fields in a way that serves the interests of both brotherly nations."
