Iraqi security forces have arrested a suspect accused of stealing 825 million Iraqi dinars from the owner of a currency exchange company in Kirkuk. The arrest comes after a two-year manhunt during which the suspect allegedly moved between several governorates to evade capture.

825 Million Dinars Stolen in Kirkuk

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior said the theft took place in 2024 in Kirkuk.

According to the ministry, the suspect stole 825,000,000 Iraqi dinars from the owner of a currency exchange company before fleeing to an unknown location.

The ministry said the suspect used various methods to avoid arrest over the past two years.

To evade security forces, he frequently moved among several Iraqi governorates to conceal his whereabouts.

After months of gathering intelligence, the Anti-Crime Police Directorate located the suspect in Baghdad.

In coordination with the Rusafa Police Command, security forces carried out a targeted operation that resulted in his arrest.

Suspect Confesses During Investigation

The Ministry of Interior said the suspect confessed to the theft during questioning and provided details of how the money was stolen.

He remains in custody under a judicial order while legal proceedings continue.
