Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani expressed sorrow over the death of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, describing him as a valued friend of the people of Kurdistan and praising his longstanding support for the Region.

Barzani Pays Tribute on X

In a post on X, Barzani said he was deeply saddened by Graham's passing and highlighted the senator's advocacy for the Kurdistan Region.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, a valued friend of the people of Kurdistan. His advocacy and unwavering support for Kurdistan will always be remembered with gratitude."

Barzani also extended his condolences to the late senator's family, friends, and colleagues.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues."

Graham's Support for the Kurds

In the final months of his life, Graham was among the leading U.S. advocates for the Kurds in Rojava (Western Kurdistan). In January 2026, he introduced the Kurdish Rescue Act in Congress, proposing sanctions against any party threatening Kurdish areas.

He argued that abandoning the Kurds, whom he described as America's principal ally in the fight against ISIS, would undermine U.S. credibility and called for stronger measures to ensure their protection in the region.
