A large cache of cash and gold seized from corrupt officials and MPs arrested in Erbil has been handed over to federal security forces.

Channel8 has learned that an Iraqi security force arrived at the Sherawa checkpoint between Kirkuk and Erbil yesterday evening to take custody of the confiscated assets from Erbil forces. Upon custody transfer, security forces immediately transported the cash and gold to Baghdad.

The transferred assets belong to the officials and MPs arrested in Erbil over the past two weeks on corruption charges, who have already been turned over to federal custody.

Meanwhile, The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council announced that 358 kilograms of gold have been recovered in the corruption case against former Deputy Oil Minister Adnan al-Jumaili, following close coordination with the Kurdistan Region.

Checkpoints Between Kurdistan Region and Iraq Tightened

Following the launch of the anti-corruption campaign, strict security measures have been implemented at checkpoints between the Kurdistan Region and federal Iraq.

Specialized committees have been deployed at checkpoints connecting Erbil and Duhok with Mosul to conduct thorough searches of citizens and cargo trucks.

Additionally, integrity and counter-terrorism forces have been deployed in Kirkuk, Dibis, and Saladin.

Iraq's Anti-Corruption Campaign Net Millions in Stolen Assets

Iraq launched a major nationwide anti-corruption campaign led by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi in May.

The sweep has led to the high-profile arrests of sitting lawmakers, governors, and ministry officials accused of running massive money-laundering networks.

To prevent suspects from fleeing, security forces have set up strict highway checkpoints to search vehicles and seize hundreds of millions of dollars in stolen public wealth.
