Iraq, Syria, and the United States are finalizing a tripartite agreement to revive the Kirkuk–Baniyas oil pipeline, with the signing expected during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi's upcoming visit to Washington. The project is being overseen by the United States as part of broader efforts to promote regional economic integration.

Tripartite Agreement Nears Signing

According to a recent report by Middle East Eye, Iraq, Syria, and the United States are completing the final stages of an agreement to restart the Kirkuk–Baniyas oil pipeline.

The pipeline stretches approximately 800 kilometers, linking the oil fields of Kirkuk with the Syrian Mediterranean coast at Baniyas. The agreement is expected to be signed during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi's upcoming visit to the United States.

U.S. Oversees the Project

The report states that the negotiations are being conducted under the supervision of Tom Barrack, the U.S. President's Special Envoy to Turkey and Iraq.

According to the report, Barrack has been leading efforts to finalize the project's technical and political details to ensure the agreement is ready for signing during al-Zaidi's visit to Washington.

According to the report, the U.S. Special Envoy views the reactivation of the Kirkuk–Baniyas pipeline as a model for broader economic and trade integration across the Middle East.

The report notes that Barrack has promoted this vision on several previous occasions, arguing that joint strategic projects can strengthen economic ties among countries in the region.

Syrian Foreign Minister Expected to Join Signing Ceremony

According to the report, the signing ceremony will also include senior Syrian representation.

Following al-Zaidi's visit to Washington, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Shaybani is expected to travel to the United States to officially participate in the signing of the agreement to reactivate the Kirkuk–Baniyas oil pipeline.
