Al-Zaidi Meets Envoy Barrack and Iraqi-American Business Leaders to Drive Strategic Investment

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi held strategic talks in Washington, D.C. with U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barrack on economic cooperation and regional stability. Additionally, Al-Zaidi met with Iraqi-American business leaders, encouraging investment in key sectors like oil and healthcare, while supporting the return of Christian families.

Al-Zaidi arrived in Washington, D.C. on Monday, marking his very first foreign trip since taking office in May this year. He is leading a high-level government, parliamentary, and business delegation and is set to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump today.

The visit aims to strengthen Iraqi-U.S. relations by attracting American investments and corporate partnerships to modernize Iraq's infrastructure, energy, and oil sectors. 

Al-Zaidi Meets Barrack to Advance Economic Cooperation 

Following his arrival in Washington, Prime Minister al-Zaidi held talks with U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barrack at his residence to discuss “prospects for cooperation.”

The meeting reviewed bilateral economic relations, recent progress, and new ways to expand cooperation and partnership. 

They also addressed regional developments, emphasizing the importance of supporting efforts to strengthen security, reduce tensions, and highlight Iraq's pivotal role in promoting regional stability.

PM Urges Michigan Diaspora to Invest in Iraq 

In a separate meeting, the Prime Minister met with representatives of the Iraqi expatriate community and business leaders from Michigan. 

The meeting reviewed the conditions of the Iraqi diaspora and explored opportunities for expatriates to invest in Iraq and help diversify its economy.

Al-Zaidi stressed that “the government views Iraq’s cultural diversity and diverse communities as a source of Iraqi human wealth, both at home and abroad.” 

The Prime Minister called on Iraqi-American business leaders, particularly from the Christian community, to invest in promising national sectors, including education, healthcare, and petroleum products.

He also highlighted the “government’s plans to significantly increase oil production within three years.” 

Al-Zaidi welcomed the return of Iraqi Christians to rebuild the Nineveh Plains, while promoting U.S. banking expansion and community protection.

In turn, community representatives expressed readiness to enter the Iraqi market and build partnerships with U.S. companies to help diversify the economy.
