Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi is currently in Washington, where a prominent research center has uncovered details regarding the critical economic files set to be finalized during discussions with U.S. officials.

A New Vision for the Oil and Energy Sector

According to information from the Al-Bayan Center for Planning and Studies, one of the primary agendas for the Iraqi delegation is reaching a joint agreement with the U.S. to draft a comprehensive plan for oil and gas transport and refining.

This strategy focuses not only on increasing production but also on creating full integration across all sectors of Iraq’s energy industry.

Transforming the Development Road into a Global Investment

The Iraqi government aims to elevate the Development Road project from a domestic initiative into a comprehensive global investment.

This will be achieved by designing a clear legal model and establishing partnerships with international financial and insurance institutions backed by U.S. development credit, while simultaneously working to attract small and medium-sized American companies into the investment sector.

Banking Reforms and Electronic Payment Systems

Strengthening banking compliance systems serves as another core pillar of the talks. The Iraqi delegation is working to institutionalize electronic payment systems to track monetary movements and curb corruption.

This process will feature direct technical support and participation from the U.S. side to bring Iraq's financial systems in line with global standards.

The Fate of Sanctions on Banks and Corporations

The issue of U.S. sanctions imposed on certain banks, individuals, and private entities (such as Fly Baghdad) remains one of the most sensitive topics. The Iraqi delegation will discuss resolution mechanisms and the potential lifting of these sanctions with Washington officials.

Human Development and Strategic Partnerships

Another key pillar of the visit focuses on launching a national program in coordination with U.S. institutions.

The initiative seeks to leverage American expertise in social and human development, while establishing new channels for commercial cooperation with U.S. enterprises across multiple sectors.
