The Kurdistan Freedom Movement says no peace process can succeed without the physical freedom of Abdullah Ocalan, rejecting any proposal that categorizes PKK members as "guilty" or "innocent" or excludes Ocalan from the process.

Movement Criticizes Lack of Contact with Ocalan

Helin Umit, a member of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, said more than 50 days have passed without any meetings or communication being permitted with Abdullah Ocalan.

According to Umit, the prolonged lack of contact demonstrates that the Turkish authorities have no genuine intention of advancing the peace process. She argued that optimistic statements about progress in the negotiations are intended to mislead the public and reflect official indifference toward the Kurdish issue.

Movement Rejects Categorization of PKK Members

Umit, who previously served as a member of the PKK Central Committee, said the Kurdistan Freedom Movement rejects any attempt to classify PKK members into "guilty" and "innocent" categories.

She said that no one has the right to suggest that PKK members should return only to be imprisoned.

She also rejected any framework that excludes Ocalan from the legal process or divides guerrilla fighters into separate categories.

Warning Against Politicizing the Peace Process

Umit warned against using the peace process to serve the political interests of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), describing such an approach as harmful to both the public and the prospects for peace.

She criticized what she described as the slow pace of the process and called on the government to take concrete steps to restore public confidence instead of delaying progress.

Ocalan’s Freedom Described as Key Condition

Referring to recent political developments, Umit noted that Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli, who had previously discussed the possibility of Ocalan's release, has since stopped making public statements on the issue.

She reiterated that the physical freedom of Abdullah Ocalan remains the movement's fundamental and non-negotiable condition for the success of any peace initiative, stating that no peace process can resolve without it.
