Several Youths Detained in Daquq After ISIS Flag Raised in Village
An ISIS flag was discovered this morning in an agricultural field in Anana village. Slogans were also found written on local electricity poles, and an explosive device was discovered at the scene.
After finding the flag and the explosive device, residents alerted security forces, which then deployed to the area and launched an investigation.
Security Forces Detain Several Individuals
Daquq District Governor Adnan Hussein confirmed to Channel8 that several individuals were detained after security forces and the Iraqi Army arrived in the village.
A relative of one of the detainees told Channel8 that the Iraqi Army arrested four local youths, including two of his nephews, without conducting a prior field investigation.
According to the relative, the detainees are between 18 and 22 years old. He expressed concern that their Kurdish ethnicity may have been a factor in the arrests.
The families said they are deeply concerned because they have not been informed where the young men have been taken.
The relative said they contacted Daquq police, but officers were also unable to provide information about the location of the detainees.
The families insist the young men are innocent, stating that they have no history of handling weapons and no knowledge of explosives.
