Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council reported 28,085 marriages in June, reflecting a modest decline compared to the previous month, with Baghdad Governorate recording the highest rates for both cases.

Official vital statistics released by the council on Wednesday indicate a downward trend in domestic family stability. The latest monthly report reveals that family formation rates declined while marital dissolutions increased compared to the previous month's data.

Fewer Marriages, More Divorces Logged in June

The figures indicate that across Iraq, excluding the Kurdistan Region, marriages decreased while divorces increased in June compared to May, which had documented 29,491 registrations.

Regarding judicial dissolutions, finalized divorces in June reached 6,250 cases, up from the 5,829 separations recorded in May.

These figures confirm that while the rate of family formation in Iraq experienced a contraction last month, marital breakdowns observed a measurable increase.

Baghdad Leads in June Marriage and Divorce Rates

According to the official data, Baghdad led all Iraqi governorates, recording approximately 7,500 marriage contracts and 2,500 finalized divorce cases.
