The Women's Union of Kurdistan (WUK) and the Sulaymaniyah Directorate General of Health signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch a comprehensive renovation project for the Sulaymaniyah Maternity Emergency Teaching Hospital.

WUK Director Lava Hikmat signed the MoU with Sulaymaniah Health’s Director General Dr. Sabah Hawrami on Wednesday.

Project to Modernize Delivery Rooms and Operating Theaters

Led and supervised by the Women's Union of Kurdistan, the initiative will address the facility's critical infrastructure needs by fully modernizing six delivery rooms, operating theaters, and sterilization units.

Additionally, the project will upgrade general hospital facilities to enhance the overall quality of care and patient safety.

Project Set to Elevate Healthcare Standards and Safety

The initiative is designed to establish a healthier, safer medical environment for mothers and newborns while simultaneously elevating the quality of local healthcare delivery.

By modernizing critical infrastructure, the project ensures the facility can better serve the community with enhanced clinical standards and improved patient safety.

Sulaymaniyah Maternity Hospital: A Critical Lifeline

The Sulaymaniyah Maternity Emergency Teaching Hospital is the primary public medical facility for women's health, maternity care, and neonatal services in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Kurdistan Region.

As a high-volume hub, the institution handles tens of thousands of admissions annually, offering specialized pre-term infant care alongside critical obstetric and gynecological surgeries.

It also functions as a vital academic training ground for local medical students and residents while relying on civil society partnerships to modernize its heavily strained infrastructure.
