Air Defenses Intercept and Shoot Down Drones Targeting Erbil

A number of drones were launched toward Erbil, targeting both the international coalition base and the airport on Wednesday night. 

A Channel8 correspondent reported that five were successfully intercepted and shot down by the air defense system. 

No casualties have been recorded in connection with the attacks thus far.

Recent Drone Attack Targets Refugee Camp Near Erbil 

Today's attack follows a separate incident on Monday, when three explosive-laden drones struck the Darashakran refugee camp. 

The suicide drones struck the central housing area of the camp in two distinct waves at 5:15 a.m. and 5:28 a.m. 

Following the incident, Erbil’s Directorate General of Counter Terrorism confirmed that the strike resulted in no casualties or injuries.

Kurdistan Hit by Hundreds of Drone and Missile Strikes Amid Regional Conflict

Amid the ongoing military conflict between the United States and Iran, the Kurdistan Region has experienced a series of drone and missile strikes targeting both military and civilian infrastructure. 

These incidents include intercepted drone attacks on the international coalition base at Erbil International Airport, as well as strikes on refugee camps hosting Iranian opposition groups. 

According to data from independent organizations and official security metrics, the Kurdistan Region was struck by more than 700 missile and drone attacks during the first three months of the active regional conflict (between February 28 and May 28). 

Erbil Province was the hardest-hit area of the total attacks, followed by Sulaymaniyah Province, while Duhok and Halabja accounted for the remaining balance.
