Syrian security forces have seized a shipment of advanced missiles and weapons at the Iraqi-Syrian border after intercepting an alleged smuggling operation. Authorities say the cargo was intended for Lebanese Hezbollah, while investigations into those responsible remain ongoing.

Weapons Seized at Iraqi-Syrian Border

According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, security forces intercepted a large shipment of advanced weapons and missiles at the Iraqi-Syrian border.

The operation took place as smugglers attempted to transport the cargo into Syrian territory through illegal border crossings.

Preliminary investigations by Syrian authorities found that the seized weapons and missiles were destined for Lebanese Hezbollah.

Security officials did not disclose the quantity or specific types of weapons recovered but said the shipment posed a significant security threat and confirmed that the smuggling route has been secured.

Investigations Continue

Syrian authorities have not announced any arrests or identified those responsible for the smuggling operation.

Officials said investigations are continuing to determine all parties linked to the case and to dismantle the smuggling networks operating between Iraq and Syria.

The seizure is part of Syria's broader efforts to combat the smuggling of weapons and explosive materials.

Following the operation, Syrian authorities said security measures have been strengthened at border crossings and across the desert areas separating Syria and Iraq to prevent similar smuggling attempts.
