Drone Attack Targets Oil Tanker in Basra; Exports Unaffected

The Iraqi Ministry of Oil stated that a drone attack has targeted an oil tanker at the Port of Basra in southeastern Iraq.

Speaking to Channel8, the ministry spokesperson Salim Farhood stated that they are currently investigating the perpetrators and the underlying causes of the attack.

Farhood confirmed that the oil export process remains unaffected and is proceeding as normal, adding that the loading process at southern ports is continuing.

Gulf Energy Threat Escalates Following Maritime Strikes 

Regional volatility has escalated sharply following the collapse of a temporary maritime security framework between the United States and Iran, exposing commercial supertankers in the Persian Gulf to recurrent targeting. 

This latest incident closely follows a reported U.S. military strike against an Iranian supertanker transiting Gulf waters. 

Concurrently, neighboring Kuwait reported a significant wave of Iranian cruise missile and drone strikes over the preceding 48 hours, aimed at suspected regional security assets.

Drone Crash at Al-Faw Port 

Just 24 hours prior to the Basra strike, an unidentified drone crashed within the perimeter of Iraq’s nearby Al-Faw Grand Port, though authorities reported no structural damage.
