The Kurdistan Region has come under a sustained wave of drone and missile attacks over the past 24 hours, leaving casualties and causing material damage in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah governorates. The strikes mark one of the most intense periods of aerial attacks recorded in the region.
Drone Attacks on Erbil
According to an official statement from Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism, the first wave of attacks took place on Friday night, July 17.
Between 9:58 p.m. and 10:06 p.m., Coalition forces intercepted and shot down five explosive-laden drones over Erbil. The agency confirmed that all five drones were destroyed and that no casualties were reported.
The attacks resumed in the early hours of the morning. Between 4:19 a.m. and 5:25 a.m., eight additional drones were launched toward Erbil. These attacks formed part of a broader series of 20 drone and missile strikes targeting the Kurdistan Region within 24 hours.
Missile Strikes Hit Sulaymaniyah
The Kurdistan Region Security Agency (Asayish) announced that at 6:20 a.m. on July 17, seven missiles struck several locations in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
According to Asayish, four missiles hit the village of Zrgwezala, one landed in the village of Qasrd, and two struck near the village of Kopan in the Qaradagh district.
The security agency added that additional attacks followed, although the final number has not yet been officially announced.

The Komala Party of Kurdistan stated that the missile strikes targeting its headquarters killed nine of its members, wounded several others, and caused extensive material damage.
The latest wave of attacks follows an earlier incident on the night of July 15, when Coalition forces in Erbil were targeted by eight drones.
