Two U.S. service members were killed in Jordan following an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack on Friday night, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced.

The casualties come amid ongoing regional hostilities and a week-long campaign of U.S. airstrikes against Iran.

CENTCOM said in a statement on Saturday that two service members were killed in action and one remains missing, adding that the casualties occurred while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.

Additionally, four medically evacuated U.S. service members have been discharged from Jordanian hospitals, while all other personnel treated for minor injuries have returned to duty.

CENTCOM further noted that it will withhold additional information, including the identities of the killed service members, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified.

U.S.-Iran Conflict Intensifies Following Collapse of June Ceasefire

The United States and Iran have entered a severe military escalation following the collapse of a June ceasefire agreement, marked by seven consecutive nights of U.S. airstrikes against Iranian military targets and the enforcement of a massive naval blockade on Iranian ports.

In retaliation, Iran launched a wave of ballistic missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. and allied facilities in the region.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier warned Tehran, “We hit them very hard,” while emphasizing that the U.S. military is fully prepared to dictate whether the conflict ends in a negotiated settlement or complete defeat.

Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei today called the U.S. President’s signature on the recent ceasefire agreement "utterly worthless and invalid," adding that Iran "will remain vigilant and active in the arena to ensure the safety of Islamic Iran's interests.”
