The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the caretaker Kurdistan Regional Government has issued a new decree to protect workers' rights, mandating that companies assume full liability for all workplace accidents.

In an official document addressed to the Directorates of Labour and Workers' Social Security, the ministry directed that if any worker suffers physical harm during working hours, the employing company must cover the full cost of their treatment. 

According to the decree, company administrations must take responsibility in cases of injury, death, and workplace accidents. 

They are required to assist the families of deceased workers and provide the treatment costs for injured workers until their full recovery and discharge from the hospital. 

Mandatory 24-Hour Notification for Workplace Incidents 

Pursuant to regulatory requirements, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs mandates that companies notify the Directorates of Labour and Workers' Social Security within 24 hours of any workplace incident. 

This immediate reporting enables relevant authorities to monitor the employee's condition effectively and execute the legal procedures necessary to safeguard their rights. 

New Directive Targets Rising Workplace Casualties in Kurdistan 

Each year, the Kurdistan Region records a significant number of workplace fatalities and occupational disabilities. 

Labor syndicates attribute a substantial portion of these incidents to a deficiency in workplace safety standards and a lack of preventative equipment. 

Consequently, this recent directive serves as a regulatory mechanism to compel companies to prioritize worker safety and welfare.
