Iraqi President Nizar Amedi and Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi stressed the need for closer institutional coordination to combat corruption and safeguard Iraqi sovereignty.

President Amedi and Speaker al-Halbousi reviewed national security and political developments on Sunday night, focusing on strategies to enhance domestic stability.

The two leaders emphasized that close coordination between the Presidency and Parliament is vital to enhance the performance of constitutional institutions.

They also emphasized that this cooperation will directly support national development, reform, and ongoing anti-corruption efforts.

"The two leaders underscored the importance of close coordination between the Presidency and the Council of Representatives to enhance the performance of constitutional institutions, support the country's path of development and reform, and continue national efforts to combat corruption," the president stated.

According to the statement, discussions also addressed current regional developments and ongoing strategies "to shield Iraq from the repercussions of regional crises while safeguarding the country's sovereignty and protecting its national interests."

Iraq Anti-Corruption Raids Net Millions in Illicit Gold and Cash 

The massive anti-corruption campaign was launched by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, leading to high-profile overnight raids by counterterrorism units inside Baghdad’s Green Zone.

Since late June, the crackdown has resulted in the detention of dozens of current and former members of parliament, judicial figures, and military generals.

Following the arrest of former Deputy Oil Minister Adnan al-Jumaili, the Supreme Judicial Council successfully recovered over 825 pounds (375 kg) of gold and tens of millions in cash hidden by corrupt officials.

Most recently, the Federal Commission of Integrity expanded its tracking cross-border to compile an asset-seizure list of over 125 prominent figures holding luxury hotels and overseas investments bought with stolen public funds since 2005.
