The Kurdistan Freedom Movement states that ongoing restrictions on meetings with Abdullah Ocalan undermine the peace dialogue, urging the "Framework Law" to address his legal status, adding that sustainable resolution and democratization require active civil society participation rather than “unilateral” state actions.

The movement said in a statement on Monday that, “For two months, it has been impossible to conduct meetings with Leader Apo [Abdullah Ocalan].”

The movement noted that restricting meetings with Ocalan during ongoing peace talks is inexplicable given his role as "the primary negotiator of the Kurdish people."

Calls for Mutual Consensus on Proposed 'Framework Law' 

The delegation of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) earlier announced an agreement to enact a "Framework Law" following meetings with the AK Party (Justice and Development Party) and Devlet Bahceli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

The Kurdistan Freedom Movement stressed that enacting a framework law for a solution cannot be achieved through "unilateral will and imposition."

They maintained that consensus must be built on mutual understanding, requiring that Ocalan’s perspective and proposals be taken into consideration.

Movement Outlines Conditions for Peace Law Success 

The movement pointed out some of the AK Party’s “unacceptable assessments,” adding that, “Some figures close to the AKP have stated that this framework law will not include any provisions regarding Leader Apo and that executive cadres will be excluded from its scope.”

The movement emphasized that any law failing to secure the freedom of Ocalan "will ultimately resolve nothing" and instead amount to "disrupting" the ongoing peace process.

“If this is achieved within a framework law, progress can be made on the issues currently under discussion,” the statement added.

The movement highlighted that the legislation impacts the entire Kurdish nation and democratic forces within Turkey, underlining that any successful law requires wide backing since neither Turkey nor its people can afford another failure.

DEM Party's Ocalan Meeting Announcement 

The Kurdistan Freedom Movement's statement comes as the DEM Party announced that the Imrali Delegation is scheduled to travel to Imrali Island Prison on July 23 to meet with Ocalan.
