Nechirvan Barzani Praises French Envoy’s "Pivotal Role" as Diplomatic Mission in Kurdistan Concludes
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with departing French Consul General Yann Braem on Tuesday and recognized his contributions to bolstering bilateral relations.
The presidency said in a statement that Barzani expressed gratitude for the envoy's “dedicated service and pivotal role” in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between France and the Kurdistan Region.
Barzani also wished the departing diplomat continued success in his future professional endeavors.

In turn, Consul General Braem “conveyed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the Kurdistan Region.”
Braem thanked President Barzani and regional institutions for their continuous support and cooperation during his diplomatic mission.

The presidency further noted that the discussions also addressed mutual commitments to deepening bilateral cooperation, alongside a comprehensive review of the security and political landscapes across Iraq and the broader region.
Diplomatic Profile: French Consul General Yann Braem
Yann Braem, a graduate of the Institute of Political Studies in Toulouse with a PhD in Geopolitics, assumed office as the Consul General of France in Erbil in November 2023.
His extensive diplomatic career includes serving as a political counselor at the French embassies in Egypt and Cyprus, as well as holding key administrative and crisis-management positions within the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Prior to his diplomatic postings, Braem worked as an academic researcher and lecturer at several French institutions.
