KRG Cabinet Meets to Review Traffic Fine Extensions, Utility Discounts, and Civil Service Reforms
The Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers is meeting on Wednesday to discuss a traffic fine exemption extension, electricity bill discounts for citizens, and new regulations for unpaid employee leave.
According to the published agenda, the Council of Ministers is scheduled to deliberate on public relief measures, focusing on easing financial burdens for citizens.
Extending Traffic Fine Exemptions
During the two-hour cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Interior is presenting a formal proposal to extend Council of Ministers Decision No. 282, which aims to push the deadline for traffic violation fine exemptions through December 21, 2026.
The proposed extension under Decision No. 282 aims to revive a previously expired 20% discount on traffic violations, providing motorists a strategic financial relief window through later this year to clear their accumulated penalties.
Utility Discounts and Fuel Price Caps
Simultaneously, the ministries of electricity and natural resources are submitting a joint report on the Kurdistan Region’s power and fuel sectors as ministers debate a framework to discount a percentage of unpaid utility bills to facilitate easier household repayment plans.
"The Kurdistan Region's power sector is managing an immediate supply deficit following localized security threats, driven by the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, which have disrupted essential natural gas production at the Khor Mor field.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Natural Resources issued an official directive earlier establishing a maximum price cap of 850 Iraqi Dinars per liter for gasoline across the Region.
Diwan Proposals Reforming Public Sector Unpaid Leave
Furthermore, the Presidency of the Diwan (Office) is introducing new recommendations to restructure unpaid leave regulations for public sector employees, updating a framework originally established under a 2015 cabinet decree.
