Iraq Fast-Tracks Entry into the 5G Era
Iraq’s Minister of Communications announced that work to introduce 5G services is ongoing. According to the minister, preparing the necessary infrastructure and expanding the communications system will require three to five months before full readiness.
He also noted that the Ministry of Finance has granted approval for the implementation of this project.
Meetings with Operators and Prime Minister’s Approval
Mustafa Sanad, Iraq’s Minister of Communications, revealed that to discuss the national telecommunications development project, a meeting was held with telecom operators, the media and communications team, and TBI Bank. Sanad described the outcome of the meeting as positive and stated that commitments will be presented to Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, so that the agreement for launching 5G can be finalized.
Network Expansion and Internet Traffic Capacity
The Ministry of Communications has requested completion of the required infrastructure, as current internet traffic has reached 6 to 8.5 terabytes, pushing existing capacity to its limits. The minister emphasized the need to expand and strengthen telecommunications networks to provide the infrastructure necessary for operating the new 5G technology across the country.
