Iraq Border Authority Reports Nearly One Million Pilgrims Entered for Ashura Ceremonies
Omar Waeli, head of Iraq’s Border Crossings Authority, announced that since the beginning of the month of Muharram, approximately 900,000 pilgrims have entered the country to participate in religious rituals.
He added that during the same period, the departure of 515,000 pilgrims through the border crossings has been recorded.
Movement of Pilgrims in Safar
Regarding the month of Safar, Waeli clarified that from the first day of the month until today, nearly 500,000 pilgrims have entered Iraq. At the same time, the process of departures has continued, with about 150,000 pilgrims leaving through the crossings.
Oversight and Coordination
The Border Crossings Authority chief emphasized that all movements of pilgrims are under close supervision. This process is directly overseen by the Prime Minister and the Higher Committee for Security and Services, ensuring proper organization of transportation and the provision of services.
